Isaiah 60:21-22 21 Then all your people will be righteous and they will possess the land forever. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendor. 22 The least of you will become a thousand, the smallest a mighty nation. I am the Lord; in its time I will do this swiftly.”
It todays words...this might sound like: "My Bride will walk in truth and righteousness, and she will possess her inheritance forever! She is the light of Christ I planted among your neighbors to spread the good news. Even the smallest among her shall display my splendor; she shall be multiplied and prosper, for she is a mighty nation, my people. I am the Lord…I will do this swiftly when the time is right!"
Barna and other researchers continue to deliver the same message. CNN reports it in their Sunday morning religion column; Christian authors write books about it, it’s old news and it’s the same news: The church is in decline. The church has lost its relevancy. The millennials are disillusioned and are seeking Spiritualism instead of the one true God. It’s not a lie…but neither is it the truth. Isaiah prophesied that the Bride of Christ will one day again accurately reflect the glory of The Groom. The church will again return to her glory, reflecting the radiant splendor of Jesus Christ; every eye will see the glory of the Father who promises all of this. It may look bleak today, but tomorrow is a different day! This depressing reporting of the status of the church today only serves to remind me that we are poised and positioned exactly where God wants us. I’m 56 years old, a late bloomer, and I am no longer in denial: There is nothing cool, hip, or trendy about me or the church…but I am perfectly positioned to point the world to Jesus Christ; he never has been cool or hip…he never changed. These are wonderful times. Our church is small in numbers, but Isaiah say the least of us will become a thousand. We may never be a church of hundreds, let alone 80…but Isaiah says the smallest among us are a mighty nation. I don’t need to wait until the fulfillment of this prophecy…I choose to live it today…for God’s word and his ways transcend time, trends, and worldviews. This is great wisdom and truth to walk in. We are that mighty church!
Do what you will do Lord. We will do our best to not get in the way, but instead prayerfully and dutifully join you. Amen.
